We are Home!
Wow, what a whirlwind the last month has been! Amelia Grace Pilger was born on Thursday, December 31, 2009 at 8:00 am in the morning. She was 8 pounds, 11 ounces and 20.5 inches long. On Saturday, January 2, 2010, she was admitted to OSF St. Francis Hospital in Peoria, IL due to an abdominal outlet obstruction. At St. Francis, it was discovered that she had deudenal altresia, or she did not have an opening from her stomach into her small bowel. This is found in about 1 in 5,000 babies. She had surgery to repair it on January 3, and spent about 2 weeks recovering before her stomach & bowels "awakened." On January 18, her repoggle tube that was suctioning the fluids in her stomach was finally able to come out, and the next day she started feedings. She had some trouble pooping on her own, but on January 22, things finally opened back up. Her feedings and weight were monitored for about a week, and finally on Friday, January 29 we were able to bring our little girl home. Now life can finally begin!
